A three-octave, 72-tine kalimba using the Array (matrix) system. This concert-level instrument is a replica of the American Array Mbira. The tines are held gently and can shift easily if knocked carelessly.
The matrix kalimba is played with both hands and all fingers: the thumbs pluck the bass tines from below, while the other fingers play the higher notes from above. The Array note layout helps players navigate a chromatic instrument and work intuitively with the main relationships between notes.
The sound is excellent: deep, clear and full. The visual finish is good, though the body assembly is not completely flawless.
