A two-row, 38-tine kalimba with additional notes and chromatic tuning. The instrument is substantial, with plenty of wood and metal. The lower row uses the standard major-scale layout. The upper row adds four bass notes in the centre and sharps or flats: opposite each lower-row tine is a note raised by a semitone.
The sound is bright and loud, with a wide range and prominent high frequencies. The kalimba responds to both fingernails and fingertips. Occasional faint high-frequency metallic noises are audible. Sympathetic resonance is pronounced: plucking one tine also sets the others vibrating slightly.
