A familiar story: you see a video of someone playing a wonderful melody and want to play like that. Surely you need exactly the same instrument!
But much of the emotion comes from the melody and the player's skill. Even if you focus on the tone, the recording is shaped by the room, audio processing, your speakers or headphones, the microphone and the rest of the recording equipment.
A skilled player can move you to tears on a poor kalimba, while a fine instrument can leave you unmoved. Do not limit yourself to “the one that person uses”. Instruments develop quickly, and a celebrated player a few years ago may not have had access to the quality available today. If you want to learn, choose a kalimba and start learning. If you also want an instrument whose individual qualities you enjoy, read our descriptions. You can do both. ;)
